Sparked by the COVID-19 pandemic - which highlighted disparities in the quality and availability of outdoor public space between Chicago’s neighborhoods - Caminata ¡47! transformed the corner of Honore & 47th into a dynamic public plaza. The installation included a rare concession by CDOT to close this low-traffic block of Honore for at least three years, allowing year-round activation by nearby businesses. With its colorful street art and inviting plaza seating, the Caminata serves as a vibrant backdrop for the neighborhood’s rich Latin heritage. From traditional dance performances to the lively Back of the Yards Fiesta annual summer festival, the Caminata is a place where the community comes alive and comes together. Whether you're craving paletas or a fresh-poured coffee, this plaza welcomes all with open arms, adding a happy touch to everyday life.
