  • El Espolón de Alzira is a multi-faceted intervention bringing urban infill housing, and a new riverfront park to the western neighborhood of La Vila. With the proposed densification of La Vila and activation of the river banks, the plan restores the urban value and the cultural importance of this pivotal corner within Alzira.

Access to the Parc Sant Gregori is from street level, descending through a cascade of steps and paths on the natural terrain. Boulders to cross the river are positioned to create a visual and physical line recalling the old Sant Gregori Bridge. The riverbank utilizes gabion retaining walls, stone, and concrete steps to create a mix of built and natural terraces, inviting residents to rediscover the waterfront. The entire mentality is one of accommodating & adapting to seasonal flood levels, rather than fighting them.
