Via Chicago is seeking a Project Architect / Senior Project Architect with 5—10+ years of experience to join our design practice. We are a small team of curious creatives, tackling a diverse roster of work including freestanding and renovation residential, hospitality, adaptive re-use of historic structures, and mid-scale multi-family projects. This role is intended for a self-sufficient architect capable of managing multiple active projects with minimal day-to-day supervision — someone who is ready to be a leader in the room.
Responsibilities
Working alongside the firm Partners to take a lead role managing projects from concept, thru development and refinement, and across the finish line into construction administration
Serving as the primary day-to-day architect responsible for project coordination, documentation, and communication
Making informed technical and coordination decisions, escalating issues to firm partners when necessary
Confidently drafting and managing a construction drawing set, including detailing, schedules, & intermediate QA/QC reviews
Overseeing one or more junior designers at our firm, as they assist in documentation & execution of the design effort
Managing project consultants, attend A/E team meetings, and troubleshoot design conflicts as they arise
Preparing design presentations and leading the conversation during working sessions with clients
Reviewing shop drawings and submittals, contacting new suppliers, and devising new details
Proactively corresponding with GCs and sub-contractors, to establish a mutual trust early in the project
Construction observation, attending site meetings, preparing field notes, and timely responses to RFIs
Researching and interpreting building code and zoning requirements as necessary
Req’s
Professional degree in architecture (B. Arch / M. Arch)
5+ years of work experience, including demonstrated experience in all stages of design and construction administration.
Proactive, self-driven, and confident in a fast-paced work environment
Excellent time management skills, and ability to self-prioritize tasks while working on multiple projects
Full professional capabilities with AutoCAD and/or Revit, SketchUp, and Adobe Creative Suite
Motivation to constantly improve your own skill set via time-saving tools and curated AI assistance
Strong technical knowledge, and experience with thoughtful detailing of specific construction systems
Good interpersonal skills & a willingness to collaborate with & support your design team
Fluency in English (required) and Spanish (strongly preferred)
Current, unrestricted legal ability to work in the United States
Benefits
We are a growing team that seeks to foster a collaborative, interactive environment between our two offices and across all levels of staff. This is an “in office” position at our Logan Square studio, where we typically WFH one day each week and always have flexibility around personal events. We offer a very competitive pay package, PTO policy, health care plan with increasing company contributions each year, and a soon-to-be finalized retirement savings plan. Via Chicago encourages individual professional development via reimbursement of licensure exams, and/or beneficial educational events and seminars throughout the year. Our typical workday runs from 8:30a — 5:30p.

Studio Coordinator / Studio Manager 📄
in-person at our Chicago Office
This is a new role for our firm — and an important one. You will work closely with the partners and project teams to support daily operations, strengthen our marketing efforts, and bring structure and efficiency to the many moving parts of a busy design studio.
Responsibilities
Studio Administration & Operations
Collaborate with firm leadership to prepare compelling fee proposals for new projects
Maintain project schedules, milestones / deadlines, and internal calendars
Schedule and plan firm-related events, workshops, and industry / client networking opportunities
Organize and maintain the studio’s physical material library, and communicate with brand reps
Coordinate in / out sample shipments, as well as fixtures for our architect-as-developer projects
Monitor invoices and payment statuses with clients and consultants
Support day-to-day office operations and general studio organization
Marketing & Communications
Improve and maintain market-specific portfolios to expand Via Chicago’s presence in target areas
Assemble qualifications packages and responses to RFPs / RFQs

Assist with website updates, including regularly writing and editing project descriptions

Partner & Team Support
Provide administrative support to the firm’s partners throughout the week
Help organize meetings, presentations, and internal workflows
Identify opportunities to improve processes and increase efficiency
Take initiative to solve problems and keep projects moving forward
Who You Are
We value attitude and initiative as much as experience. Whether you are early in your career or bringing skills from another field, what matters most is your ability to learn quickly, stay organized, and take ownership of your work.
Exceptionally organized and detail-oriented
Curious, proactive, and comfortable learning new tools and systems
A clear communicator — both written and verbal
Able to manage multiple tasks and shifting priorities with confidence
Comfortable working independently while staying connected to the team
Interested in design, architecture, or the creative industries (formal training not required)
Motivated by the opportunity to grow with a small, ambitious, international design firm
The Role
This position is equal parts organization, communication, and creativity. You will help manage the administrative backbone of the studio while also contributing to marketing and business development efforts. On any given day, you might be preparing a batch of invoices, assembling a new project proposal, organizing material samples for a trendy new restaurant, drafting social media content, or coordinating a design award submission.
Think of this role as the “Swiss Army knife” of the office — someone who keeps the details in order so the rest of the team can focus on design, clients, and building great projects. You will serve as a key support resource for the partners and team, helping the firm operate more efficiently and present our work in a clear, polished, and professional way. This is a new role for our growing company — we’re looking for someone who can help craft it and make it their own.
