West Town, Chicago

One of Chicago's oddest properties survives on this West Town corner - sitting in the front yard of a typical 3-flat is a triangular brick structure from the late 1920s, measuring a diminutive 153 square feet on the interior. A new owner has proposed restoring and re-purposing this gem of a building - formerly a hot dog stand, among other uses - into a micro-sized rental unit. Taking advantage of an existing partial basement, Via Chicago plans to drop the main floor level and create an extra-high living space that is unexpectedly comfortable and spacious. The project is currently working through a complex zoning approval process, with construction expected in late-2018.
